Concerta Warning!

What you need to know:

The following have been reported with the use of methylphenidate HCI and other stimulant medications:

  • Heart related problems
  • Sudden death in patients who have heart problems and heart defects
  • Stroke and heart attack in adults
  • Increased blood pressure and heart rate

Your doctor should have asked about any heart problems, heart defects, high blood pressure or a family history of these problems. Additionally, your doctor should continue to check your blood pressure if you or your loved one are continuing to take this medicine.

Call your doctor right away if you or your loved one has any signs of heart problems such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fainting while taking Concerta

 Look for these mental (psychiatric) problems:

  • New or worse behavior and thought problems
  • New or worse bipolar illness
  • New or worse aggressive behavior and hostility

New psychotic symptoms (children and teenagers):

  •             Hearing voices
  •             Believing things that are not true
  •             New manic symptoms

Additional Warnings

You should not take Concerta if you or your child:

  • Are very anxious, tense or agitated.
  • Have an eye problem called Glaucoma
  • Have tics or Tourette's syndrome (or a family history of it)
  • Have had seizures or an abnormal brain wave test (EEG)
  • Esophagus, stomach, or small or large intestine problems
  • Pregnant (or planning to become pregnant)

Concerta is a federally controlled substance (CII) because it can lead to dependence. Keep Concerta in a safe place to prevent misuse and abuse.
